Launch Update – June 7th
We have repaired the damaged threads on the flywheel successfully as of Saturday morning only to find that many of the teeth on the ring gear (used to start the motor) were in bad shape (if you’ve ever been on the launch when it screeches before starting, this is the cause).
Parts places are closed on weekends, so we could not find or order the part needed. So, first thing on Monday we sourced and ordered the gear needed with a promised delivery of Tuesday. Our plan is to get the gear, bring it to our mechanic, have him install it on the flywheel (involves removing the old one, heating the new one and slipping it on to the fly) on Tuesday and put everything back together on Wednesday. Fingers crossed we will have launch service back in time for races. Please contact Bill Turner if you are able to help, it’s a backbreaking process so help will be appreciated.
Once again, the root cause was a winter float , sometimes hard to see, which caused the problem. If you still have a winter float on your mooring, please make arrangements to make it clearly visible or get a summer float on it soon.
