Adult Sailing

Always wanted to sail away to that peaceful island but never learned to sail?  Join us at Thames Yacht Club in New London, CT for our adult “Learn to Sail Adventure”.  An understanding of seamanship and sailing skills can open up a whole new life experience.  Classes limited to 6 students per session to maximize the experience.

Our classes are geared for the new sailor or for the sailor wanting to retool their skills. Classes will be held at the Thames Yacht Club located at 396 Pequot Ave in New London, CT. We will be using an Ensign sailboat.  Ensigns are the class sailboat of the Thames Yacht Club and designed for a skipper and crew of three or four. Each student will take a turn as skipper and one of the crew positions. Students will learn the Points of Sail and use that knowledge to sail on a reach, as well as tack upwind, gybe downwind, and learn the Rules of Right of Way on the water.

But most of all students will learn the joy and fun of being on the water on a sailboat. 

We have several class options to accommodate the working adult schedule. There will be two sessions consisting of a total of ten hours of instruction held on Monday and Tuesday nights. Classes will be from 5:30 to 8:00. This means a three-week commitment on Monday and Tuesday nights; the 3rd Tuesday is an optional free supervised sailing night. We will also be offering adult weekend sailing sessions with instruction from 9:00 to 3:00 on Saturday and Sunday. 

Cost: TYC members $150.00 Non-members $180.00

Choice of Weekday Evenings:

• Monday/Tuesday: June 8/9, June 15/16 and June 22/(23 if needed) 5:30 to 8:00pm  

or Choice of Two Weekends: 

• Early Summer: Saturday, June 20 & Sunday June, 21          9:00AM – 3:00 PM 
• Mid-Summer: Saturday, August 22 & Sunday, August 23      9:00AM – 3:00 PM
