Memorial Day Information

Hello everyone:
The Memorial Day weekend is often thought of as the start of summer, this year I would like to think of it as our chance to resume club use. In this letter you will find reference to guidelines set up to help us get our season going. If we can all follow the guidelines and help maintain a safe and healthy environment, we will work on moving forward. It will take everyone helping to make sure everyone follows the guidelines set forth.
Please remember many of what is put forth in this letter are coming not from your executive board but from the State of Connecticut.
First let me say that the club house itself will not be open but the beach, the dock, the launch, and the mooring field are open for use if the guidelines for each are followed. When you arrive at the club please wear a mask unless in the water swimming. Enter the club on the north side of the club house and use that walkway to the beach, if you need to bring things in a cart use the driveway on the south side but not the walkway that will be used by those exiting beach and club.
You will want to bring your own beach chair as the club chairs are not available at this time.
Group size on the beach is limited to 5 people and beach blankets are to be at least 15 feet apart. That being said I think there is plenty of beach space for all that want. Remember social distance or masks are required when in proximity to others. We would prefer that you did not use picnic tables at this time but if you do you need to clean and sanitize. We will not have the swim float in at this time. Also the galley will not be open but we are working with health department to see what we have to do get it open. Stay tune for future update.
The launch schedule for the weekend is as follows:
  • Friday 12-5
  • Sat. 10-8
  • Sun 10-8
  • Monday 10-6
We will be following the CDC guidelines and all passengers and operators must wear a mask. We will only be able to take 2 passengers at a time unless everyone lives in the same house and then we could take a family of 4. (group size 5 Max).

Passengers should maintain a 6 foot distance on launch float and dock. The launch driver will clean and disinfect the launch after each trip so be prepared to wait.

If waiting is a problem, there are two dingys you can borrow, row to your boat and tow dingy back to dock for next person. If you don’t see a launch driver, call channel 71 or go to side door on south side of club and ask. All doors to the club will be closed except one on north side to men’s room and one on south side to ladies room and first floor.

Speaking of the club house proper, the decks can be used but remember you will need to bring your chair, the inside of the club is closed except the door on the south walkway will be open when a launch driver is on duty. A table will block entrance to the first and gives the launch driver a 6 foot barrier from members.
The second floor will be closed and locked for the time being.
We are going to try to open the first floor ladies room and the first floor men’s room from 12 to 5 Friday thru Monday this weekend. We ask if you use the restroom that you bring sanitizing wipes for knobs and things. The restroom will be thoroughly sanitized and cleaned each day. We are relying on you, the members, to help between cleanings. If your boat is here you should use boat head. The upstairs bathrooms and showers will not be open at this time.
Remember we are a private club of members and a small club without any full time employees, so everyone needs to step up going forward. Our normal cleaning schedule is 2 to 3 times a week but with the COVID-19 restrooms need daily cleaning, multiple times a day, depending on hours open. We hope this plan will work for you and remember it is just a beginning.
I want to remind our racers that club races are cancelled until after June 27th and we will revisit racing as we get to the middle of June.
I would like to thank all our members who showed up this week to get the walkway in and to help with getting club ready for our soft opening. Many hands make light work and it is appreciated. You can see lots of moorings sitting on the beach getting ready for placement. Walter (our diver) has been putting on summer mooring and is waiting for dive shops to open so he can get air for his tanks to start inspection.
We will be sailing soon and enjoying the beach but we must remember to follow the guidelines sent to you in several email. Please if you see someone not following guidelines, speak up, we want to remain open.
Things will get better.
