Week of July 12 TYC Racing Update

Wednesday Night Keelboat Racing- July 8 saw the first race of the 2020 season with a practice “fun” in 3 classes: participating were 7 Ensign’s, 4 non-spinnaker (B class), and 3 spinnaker (A class) boats. Despite the light winds, everyone was able to finish the course before dark.  July 15 will be the first official race of the Summer Series.

Thursday Night Force 5 Racing: July 9 was the last race of the Spring Series for the Force 5’s.  Racing started in May with 4 boats, but this week saw 7 boats competing.  Five races were sailed, with Rob Scala (2019 North American champ) winning every race, showing he still has his mojo from last year.

Commissioning 2020

Please join the TYC Commodore, Officers and Executive Committee on July 11th at 11:00AM for the 2020 Commissioning Ceremony.

The ceremony will be streamed live on the TYC Facebook page.

Watch from the beach or your boat, and will mark the opening of our 2020 season!

A moment of silence will be observed in honor of members lost during the past year:
Joseph Kaplowe, Jon Peterson and James Reyburn.

We ask all members to help us celebrate the opening by blowing your boat horn or bell after the firing of the TYC cannon.

New Senior and Intermediate Members will receive their TYC burgee after the ceremony concludes.

Membership cards and Yachting Club of America cards will also be available.

An important update

Thames Yacht Club

The TYC Board met on 6/29/20 and approved the below updated guidelines in response to CT’s Phase 2 Reopening plan.

These guidelines will be reviewed and revised periodically in response to changing circumstances as well as CDC and State of CT guidelines. They are considered temporary amendments to the House and Dock Rules and are enforced as dictated by the By-Laws of the Club. Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all TYC members and guests is paramount. As a private club it will take everyone’s cooperation and a little sacrifice to make this work.

Please provide 6’ distancing to non-household members at all times. A mask is to be worn when entering and exiting the TYC property, when moving about common space, including the beach, and when on the dock and launch. Group sizes shall be no more than 10 people. If you do not feel well or present with any symptoms associated with COVID-19 please refrain from visiting the club. Also, we ask that members returning and guests visiting from the designated states observe CT’s required self-quarantine before enjoying the club.

Guests
Social distancing requirements may present challenges to use of the decks and beach at times, particularly on weekends and holidays. To ensure all members’ access please consider inviting guests on off-peak days and times and observe the limit of 3 visits of the same guest. Please ensure any guests are aware of the rules and abide. Other clubs have instituted a temporary no visitor policy due to COVID, except for accessing boats. This is something we hope is not necessary at TYC.

Clubhouse
The clubhouse itself remains closed until further notice. No personal or social use is allowed. The first-floor bathrooms are available when the launch is operating and shall be accessed from the outside walkways. No-wipe Disinfectant spray will be available. We ask that you spray the surfaces before leaving. Additionally, the bathrooms will be cleaned periodically.

The first and second floor decks are open for use. Tables must remain distanced. Please clean and disinfect with sanitizing spray after use.

Upstairs bathrooms will be available for showering Thursday through Sunday. Please spray down all surfaces with disinfectant after use. These will be cleaned periodically as well. The upstairs remains closed until further notice.

Beach
Beach Picnic tables are available for use but must remain spaced apart consistent with social distancing standards. Please clean and disinfect with sanitizing spray after use. Do not store belongings on the picnic tables.

Please bring your own chair. These may be stored in the designated area, located in the Northwest corner of the club property. Do not remove the plastic chairs.

Per CT State guidelines there must be 15 ‘ between guests not in the same household. This will allow for movement about the beach and access to the waterline.

Dock carts, hoses and other shared equipment must be disinfected between uses. It’s up to the user to wipe down or wash touched points after use.

Galley
The Galley will be open 7 days per week, as weather supports. All items will be served to-go, using all disposable dinnerware. Ordering and service will be from the Galley window along the north side walkway. The inside window will not be open until further notice.
